Make sure you take a moment to explore the charms of Pierrerue, which is just 5 km from Saint Chinian as you head towards Béziers and the Mediterranean beaches. This small wine-growing town sits at the foot of the Fontjun pass and is imbued with a sense of calm and easy living.

With a terroir and climate that are perfectly suited to vines, there are a host of wine estates which will be pleased to offer you a tour of their cellars or a Saint-Chinian AOC wine-tasting session.

If beautiful rocks are your thing, you’ll enjoy wandering around the streets to see the houses of brown-red stone, the colour of which is comes from bauxite. Stopping off at the 16th century church, the fountain and the lavoir (wash-house) is an absolute must.

Up in the hills of the hamlet of Combejean, La Bosque and Le Priou are ideal spots to walk along and explore the Sainte-Suzanne chapel. Pierrerue is also the starting point for two mountain biking routes – head to the town hall square to set off on a 23 km ride (no.8 “Pierrerue-Cazedarnes”, 530m D+ (elevation)) or a 10 km route (no.17 “Pierrerue Haut”, 270m D+ (elevation)). The sweeping patchwork of the vines, fragrant garrigue scrubland and white rocks of Saint Chinian will provide a stunning backdrop for your ride.
